The Circle of Friends Story

Our History

In 1991, Michelle Landry began taking care of children in a home daycare setting in Indiana. After moving to North Attleboro in 1998, this home daycare became Circle of Friends Montessori School. Roy and Michelle have been serving local families from Massachusetts and Rhode Island since then. Roy joined Michelle in 2002 with the intention of expanding Circle of Friends. In 2006, this expansion became a reality; the addition increased classroom space and student capacity while retaining the home-based preschool experience.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to children and their social, emotional, physical, cognitive development in a loving, family home environment. We provide growth opportunities that encourage independence, cooperation, and respect for others so that children may become responsible, capable, and loving young persons on their way to adulthood. We interact with each child, introducing materials and activities at appropriate times to encourage learning and discovery. We strive to engender a love of learning that they will carry throughout their lives. We delight as the children develop their unique personalities and gain confidence in themselves through successful and meaningful activities and interactions with us and the other students. We hope that their time at Circle of Friends Montessori School will become one of the fondest memories of their earlier childhood years.

Our Program

We engage with children from ages 15 months to 6 years old in hands-on Montessori learning in our home-based classroom. We have a designated toddler space and preschool/kindergarten space. Our classroom includes activity centers for practical life, sensorial learning, mathematics, language, and history and geography. Learning takes place outside, too, in our outdoor classroom. The outdoor classroom includes a raking garden, nautilus, living dome, butterfly gardens, vegetable garden, fruit trees and blackberry bushes, large open space, and a playground with swings, slides, and other large gross motor skill activities for the children to enjoy. We offer year-round, 3-full-day and 5-full-day programming. Read more about our program below!

Educating the Whole Child

Our program runs year-round with 3-full-day and 5-full-day options. The Summer months offer additional experiences in nature and our outdoor classroom, including extra field trips and water games. We practice mindful conflict resolution and guide students to interact with their peers with compassion, empathy, and peace. We promote diligence in caring for the classroom space, activities, and animals (our bird and frog!). We have an integrative, inclusive classroom, and our program has demonstrated success with students with physical and cognitive disabilities and other learning challenges.

Achieving Learning Goals

In the classroom, we guide all children as they work at their own pace. We observe their progress and mastery of activities and provide regular feedback. We complete personal assessments regularly and offer parent conferences twice a year and upon request to discuss student progress and set goals. We use the learning goals and milestones from local public and private schools to ensure that our students have achieved or exceeded those goals by the time they graduate from our program.

Integrating Fun and Learning

We mix fun and learning on a daily basis, pairing our in-the-classroom activities with:

Play and adventure in our outdoor classroom and playground.

Field trips to local farms, museums, galleries, and centers. Some of our favorites are the Attleboro Art Museum, Adam’s Farm, the Audubon Society, and the Providence Children's Museum.

Holiday traditions and gatherings for the whole family, including our Welcome Back Ice Cream Social, Halloween Party, Thanksgiving Feast, Winter Holiday Party (featuring Santa!), Birthday Celebrations, and more.

The Montessori Difference

The Montessori Method is based on the philosophy that all children have endless potential, unique talents, and individual learning styles. Montessori develops the whole child, fostering creativity, independence, patience, and problem-solving as well as foundational academic skills. At Circle of Friends, Roy and Michelle guide students through discovery, supporting the students as they engage in their learning experience. Unlike a traditional classroom, Circle of Friends Montessori School utilizes a variety of hands-on materials and pedagogical methods to help each child achieve his or her potential. Still unconvinced? Read our article, “Why choose Montessori over traditional school?” here.

Inside the classroom

We are currently renovating and expanding our classroom space to be ready for the 2023-2024 school year!

“My husband and I sent both of our sons to Circle of Friends Montessori School and we loved the experience.  There was a great mix of structured educational time, creative play and art, and a lot of outside time.  The love and support that my children received from Roy and Michelle is something we knew we couldn’t get at another school.  They were cared for like they were one of their children and I always trusted the school and its integrity.  Both of my children were well prepared for kindergarten in an emotional/social aspect as well as educational.  Michelle and Roy take pride in their teaching and I’m so thankful that we had an experience like we did with Circle of Friends.”
